Mumbai: The LIC Western India Amateur Golf Championship will be held from November 1st – 4th, 2011 at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club in Mumbai. About 85 golfers from all across India will be rubbing shoulders at Par-70 Course.
The top three Bangalorians Udayan Mane, S. Chikkarangappa and Khalin Joshi will be ready to restart their neck-to-neck challenge after a stunning performance in the Poona Golf Club.
Delhi’s Siddharth Semwal who came second in the last week’s Maharashtra Open Amateur Golf Championship in Pune, will be eyeing his first amateur golf championship victory and Jamshedpur’s Karan Taunk will try to play consistent golf till the end of the day to finish with a great score.
The 15-year-old Honey Baisoya from Delhi who already made a mark on the Junior circuit, will also be joined by a host of exciting players from all over the country.
Udayan Mane, winner of Maharashtra Open Amateur Golf Championship last week said, “I have lot of experience of playing at this club. I am glad that I was nearly about to break the course record of 8-under in last week’s tournament at Poona Golf Club where I shot 6-under in the second day and now I am all set to produce another great show here. My plan is such that I need to loose some weight and concentrate little more on my swing to get ready to play the Qualifier for becoming a Professional by next year.”
Currently No.1 Indian Amateur S. Chikkarangappa said, “I am pretty happy to come back to Bombay Presidency Golf Club once again. I am travelling and playing a lot of golf these days and have not been able to work on my swing. Though, I am not in a very good form these days, I am really looking forward to clinch the title to stay at the top of IGU’s Order of Merit List.”
The first 28 Amateur golfers of the country as per the IGU’s merit list qualify automatically for this tournament, around 53 players have made the grade through a qualifier held at The Oxford Golf & Country Club two weeks ago and four are nominees of the Bombay Presidency Golf Club. The cut, for the LIC Western India Amateur Golf Championship, will be applied after the first two days of play (36 holes) and the first 45 players will compete for top honours by playing another 36 holes on 3rd and 4th November. The tournament will be played in Stroke Play format.
