Li Na, Radwanska make it to third round of US OpenNew York: Li Na and Agnieszka Radwanska have made their way into the third round of the US Open after thrashing Sofia Arvidsson and Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor respectively here on Wednesday. It was more of a one-sided battle for both of the players, as Radwanska won the first set quite easily but was stretched to a tie breaker in the final set whereas Li Na won her match after facing very little resistance from Sofia, who was just good enough to win just couple of games in each set.


It took Li Na just 64 minutes to wrap up her match by 6-2, 6-2. She took her time to get adjusted but once she found her rhythm and range of shots coming, she was a treat to watch as she broke the lead of 3-1. She dropped just six points on her own serve in the first set and eased past Sofia in just 32 minutes.


World No. 100 was having a tough time against the fifth seeded Li Na, who broke early in the second set and with her 17th winner as she grabbed the opening game. Sofia did try to come back and was helped by her opponent Li who made some unforced errors that released the pressureas she got the 2-1 lead. Though, her dominance didn’t last too long as Li broke her to 4-2 as she fired her 28th winner of the match.


Li then winded up her fixture without any hick-ups as she smashed as much as 29 winners and won 12 out of 17 times when she came close to the net.


Radwanska advances to the third round of US Open


Meanwhile, in another women’s singles match, No. 3 seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland managed to oust her Spanish opponent by 6-0, 7-5 on Wednesday. Radwanska left no stone unturned in the opening set and allowed Torro-Flor to score just five points on her serve in the first 21 minutes.


Down and out, 21 year-old Torro-Flor, made a brilliant comeback to break the second set but Radwanska broke back in next game. Pole was looking haywire during the halfway mark of the second set as she allowed the Spaniard to make a comeback and break for the second time in the set.


Radwanska kept her nerves steady and broke back again and after winning the eighth game of the second set, she looked soldi at 5-3. She again let go the match point and allowed Torro-Flor to catch her up to make it 5-5. Radwanska won the match as she held the serve

Suarez Navarro dashes Vandeweghe's hopes


Missing straight returns is nothing less than a crime and unfortunately 22-year-old American, Coco Vandeweghe, did that as much as four times in the opening game of her second round match which she played against Carla Suarez Navarro.


The 18th seed Spaniard made the good use of Vandeweghe’s 37 unforced errors and five double faults and thrashed her out of the US Open by winning this match by 6-2, 6-4.
