World No.3 Mathias Boe replaces Maneepong in IBL

Mathias-BoeNew Delhi: The 2012 London Olympic men’s doubles silver medalist, Denmark’s Mathias Boe has been bagged by Awadhe Warriors as a replacement for the recently-banned Thai shuttler Maneepong Jongjit.

The IBL governing council ratified the decision here on Saturday, following a request from Awadhe Warrior to pick up the former world No.1 in men’s doubles out of a reserve list that included Hendra Aprida Gunawan (Indonesia), Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki (Indonesia), Ivan Sozonov (Russia), Ingo Kindervater (Germany), Mathias Boe (Denmark), Thein How Hoon (Malaysia), Chang Peng Soon (Malaysia), Robert Mateusiak (Poland), Sudket Prapakamol (Thailand).

Commenting on the decision to select Mathias Boe, Awadhe Warriors’ Mr Abhijit Sarkar, said, “We are extremely delighted to bag one of the best doubles players in the world. I’m confident Mathias Boe will be a great asset for Awadhe Warriors in the forthcoming IBL.”


Speaking on the inclusion of Mathias Boe, Badminton Association of India President & MP, Dr Akhilesh Das Gupta said, “We welcome the support and participation from all the leading players in the world for the IBL. Indian fans will be thrilled to watch the London Olympics silver medalist Mathias Boe in action.”


A delighted Olympic silver medalist Boe said, “India is a great badminton country with so many fans and I really look forward to be part of the event. I have been involved in the IBL from the beginning and have made myself available for the League this year. The most important thing is to look forward, and focus on making IBL as successful as possible.”
