Indians disappoint as Gowda finishes 7th at World C'shipsMoscow: Disappointing show from the Indian athletes continued at the IAAF World Championships as Basant Bahadur Rana and Sandeep Kumar finished at 33rd and 45th in the 50 km race walk event on Wednesday. It was the best performance of this season for Rana at 3hr 58m which got him at 33rd position whereas Sandeep was disqualified from the event for breaking the rule.




Rana’s personal best, which is also a National record, is of 3:56:48 which he claimed in the London Olympics when he finished off at 36th postion. Sandeep was disquailified after the 35 km mark for violating a rule.



Gowda seventh



Indians disappoint as Gowda finishes 7th at World C'shipsVikas Gowda had a decent run on Tuesday when he finished off at seventh spot in discus throw. His best performance came in with a throw of 64.03m on Tuesday. It took him four attempts to reach his best performance of the day. His throws read 63.41m, foul, 62.20m, 64.03m, 63.67m and 63.64m.



Gowda, with a throw of 64.05m, had finished seventh in the World Championships at Daegu, South Korea, in 2011. He had cleared 64.90m in the Asian championships in Pune last month. His National record stands at 66.28m.


Hopes on Maheswary and 4x400m


Now all hopes lie on Renjith Maheswary (men’s triple jump) and the women’s 4x400m relay team. Maheswary’s qualification round will be held on Friday and the women’s 4x400m relay heats and final will also be held on the same day.
