Rustenburg (South Africa): Brilliant bowling by Indian pacers helped India 'A' beat South Africa 'A' by an innings and 13 runs on the fourth and final day of the opening unofficial Test to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series, here on Tuesday.
Chasing a first innings target of 582, South Africa were made to follow on as they were bundled out for just 357 runs in the frist innings. The Proteas failed to put up a spirited fight in the second innings as well and were shot out for 212, losing the match by an innings and 13 runs.
For India, pacers Mohammed Shami (3/29) and Ishwar Pandey (3/25) were the wracker-in-chief while Rohit Sharma took two wickets to help India beat the hosts. For South Africa, Temba Bavuma was the top scorer with 65 runs in the second innings.
The hosts, who had lost nine wickets for 312, started day four with Kyle Abbott and Andrew Birch. The tail-enders did try to provide some late resistance before Suresh Raina trapped Birch to end South Africa's first innings at 357, resulting in a follow on.
The fate of the Proteas didn't change in the second innings as Pandey and Shami struck early. Pandey dismissed Reeza Hendricks for 4 while Shami sent Dean Elgar (3) and J P Duminy (0) back into the pavilion within four deliveries. Raina then bowled out Newman Rilee Rossouw in the 20th over when the batsman went for a sweep shot.
Later, Shami took the wicket of Ontong while Pandey bowled out Tsolekile in the 35th over. Therafter it was never going to be easy for the Proteas and the hosts lost the match by an innings.
