Anand, Bhat qualify for main draw of India Open 2013

chetan-anandNew Delhi: Experienced Indian shuttler Chetan Anand and Arvind Bhat cruised into the main draw of the Yonex Sunrise India Open 2013, part of the BWF OSIM World Super Series after they beat their respective opponents here at the DDA Badminton and Squash stadium here today.

Anand saw off challenge from Abhimanyu Singh and Sameer Verma in the first and the second qualifying round respectively. He won the first match 21-17 21-12, while in the second match he prevailed 22-20, 11-21, 21-13.

Bhat thrashed Pisit Poodchalat of Thailand 22-20 21-19 before winning a hard-fought battle with Aditya Prakash 20-22 21-14 21-18 in the second round.

Meanwhile another Indian player, Anup Sridhar could not make it to the main round after he lost his second qualifying match against HS Prannoy. Sridhar dished out a dominating performance against Mohit Kamat 21-11 21-12, but lost to Prannoy 21-17 21-14. Prannoy did not have to sweat it out much in the first match as his opponent and compatriot Vikas Harsha conceded the match 21-9, 1-0.

Subhankar Dey of India also qualified for the main draw after he beat Rohit Yadav and Oscar Bansal in his qualifying matches.

From women’s circuit, former national champion Trupti Murgunde, Rituparna Das, Saili Rane and cruised into the main draw. Murgunde beat Riya Pillai and Anastasia Chervaykova of Russia 21-14 8-21 21-18 and 21-19 21-19 respectively.
