Azlan Shah Cup: India lose to Korea 1-2

pr sreejesh azlan shah cupIpoh: India failed to take their chances and lost to Korea 1-2 in the Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh this evening.

Desperate to win their matches after losing their opening encounters, the Koreans looked the more determined side in the opening half. However India lifted their game after the breather but paid the price for failing to take their chances.

The Koreans dominated proceedings but the agile Indian custodian PR Sreejesh kept them at bay, making some saves that were almost impossible. However, Korea made it count from their second penalty corner as Nam Hyun Woo relayed the ball to the right for Kang Moon Kweon to deflect it into the roof of the India goal in the 29th minute.

Although Korea were awarded two more penalty corner in the closing minutes of the first half, they could not add to their tally.

India were on level terms four minutes upon resumption, thanks to some great work by Mndeep Singh on the right who evaded two defenders before setting up Malak Singh to tap into an empty goal. Though India were awarded two penalty corners, Rupinder Pal Singh failed to make them count. And they paid the price for it as a long hit by Jung Man Jae was met by a lurking Kang whose deft touch caught Sreejesh for Korea to lead 2-1.
