New Delhi: India started their title defence on a winning note as they beat China 4-0 in their opening match of the 2nd Asian Champions Trophy played at Doha, Qatar.
The defending champions scored through SV Sunil , VR Raghunath, and Birendra Lakra.
A fine field goal by Sunil in the 13th minute and a penalty corner conversion by vice-captain Raghunath in the 17th minute gave India 2-0 lead at the halftime.
India put the game out of China’s reach when they scored two goals within a minute of each other. Raghunath scored via penalty corner in the 52nd minute and Lakra found the nets on a deflection from Rupinderpal Singh in the next minute.
India will now face Japan in their next game to be played on Friday.
