New Delhi: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) went ahead with its scheduled elections on Wednesday despite the orders from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that the elections should not be conducted, and if it was held that will be considered null and void.
The IOA association went ahead with its AGM and election process claiming that they have not violated the Olympic charter and did so because they were ordered by the Delhi High Court and there was nothing much they could have done.
"We were ordered to conduct elections by the Delhi High Court and we had no choice but to conduct them today. We will now report the details to the court and then further course of action will be decided," Malhotra said.
“We will be approaching the IOC again and we are hopeful that we will successfully explain our case to them and get the suspension revoked at the earliest."
Abhay Singh Chautala was elected to the presidential post unopposed while Lalit Bhanot, who spent 11 months in jail due to Games related corruption, charges as the new Secretary General. VN Nanavati, as senior vice-president, and N Ramachandran, as the treasurer, were also elected unopposed.
