Ahmedabad: Quite impressed by how skipper Alastair Cook and Nick Compton batted in the second innings to take 111 for no loss on the third day, England wicket-keeper Matt Prior said that that there was a lot to learn from the two. Prior admitted that England are still behind in the game, but the way Cook and Compton have batted has given them a lot of confidence.
“The way Compton and Cook batted was absolutely fantastic. The first innings was a bit of shocker for us. We lost too many wickets too quickly. But as professional sportsmen we have to look forward and take the positives of the day. We have to learn a huge amount from the way our openers batted in the second innings. We are still behind in the game, but it still gives us a lot of confidence, go out and bat for a long period of time tomorrow,’’ said Prior, admitting that England had not got it right in the first innings.
“We need a bit of confidence. The batsmen were keen and wanted to get out there and prove a point. We knew that the wicket was going to turn a bit. I think we got a little ahead of ourselves in the first innings, and a bit panicked. But things are calm in the second and we have to take a lot from Compo and Cookie. It’s turning a bit and bouncing a bit, but you can bat,” said Prior.
