New Delhi: A brilliant unbeaten 143 –run stand by Abhimanu Chauhan and Ambati Rayudu saw Baroda post 252-3 at stumps on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy Group B tie against at the Ferozshah Kotla, here on Saturday.
Chauhan and Rayudu joined forces when Baroda was reeling at 109-3, and fought back to take Baroda to a comprehensive position.
Baroda started off well and the openers Saurabh Wakaskar and Aditya Waghmode put up an opening partnership of 46 before Wakaskar was out for 22.
His wicket brought Chauhan to the crease and both the batsmen played with caution to build a partnership of 55 for the second wicket.
Waghmode was dismissed for 54 and he hit seven boundaries in his 105-ball innings. Rakesh Solanki was next man to get out without troubling the scorers.
With Baroda in a spot of bother, stand-in-skipper Rayudu and Chauhan launched a fight-back. Rayudu led from the front and was dominating of the two. He penetrated the gaps well and manoeuvred the bowling well.
Even though Chauhan reached his half century ahead of Rayudu, he started playing the role of an anchor while his partner took the attack to the opposition bowlers.
Rayudu scored 83 off 146 balls including 13 boundaries, while Chauhan too hit 13 boundaries in his 196-ball 82.
Rajat Bhatia was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi in the day and took 2-20.
