India upset Italy in Women's World Team Squash

dipikaNew Delhi: India pulled up a major upset in the WSF Women’s World Team Squash Championship after they defeated a higher-ranked Ireland in a thrilling encounter in Nimes, France.

However the victory did not come easy to 10th seeded India as they have to dish out some top quality squash to beat the fancied Ireland seeded 7th in the tournament.

Dipika Pallikal got India off to a winning start with 11-9, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8 victory over the Irish champion Madeline Perry, but Joshna Chinappa conceded the lead with her loss to Aisling Blake 9-11, 11-7, 11-6, 8-11, 9-11.

It was then Anaka Alankamony, who showed nerves of steel to beat Laura Mylotte 12-10, 11-3, 11-7 to help India script a sensational victory.
