Sehwag ton goes in vain as UP defeat Delhi by 6 wicketsGhaziabad: Uttar Pradesh defeated Delhi by six wickets in a Group B encounter of the Ranji Trophy match at Ghaziabad.

UP needed 155 runs in the last innings to win the match and some aggressive batting under fading lights saw UP achieve the target in 39.2 overs. UP with the win have achieved six points from the match.

Earlier in the day, Virender Sehwag scored a terrific hundred to keep Delhi in the hunt. Sehwag who was unbeaten on 21 overnight played a responsible innings to guide Delhi fight back.


Delhi were 197/4 at the start of the fourth day, with Mithun Manhas on 63 and Sehwag who came at number six unbeaten on 21.


Manhas only added two runs to his individual score before getting out, he was soon followed by Sumit Narwal who failed to open his account.

Sehwag then took the onus upon himself and completed his half-century in the first hour of the day’s play. He was dropped once but carried on and completed his century, in the process he took Delhi past the 300 mark. Sehwag got good support from Pradeep Sangwan who scored 21 runs. Sehwag then got out to Imtiaz on 107.

Chasing 155 runs, UP got off to a fine start as their openers Tanmay Srivastava and Mukul Dagar added 54 runs in good time. All the UP batsmen played aggressively. Suresh Raina made a quick-fire 37 to take UP closer to the target.

Alam (15*) and Murtaza (14*) added 27 important runs for the fifth wicket to ensure that UP get maximum points from the match.
