IOA grants affiliation to five National Federations

IOA grants affiliation to five National FederationsNew Delhi: Indian Olympic Association (IOA) today granted provisional affiliation to five national federations - Ice Skating Association of India, Ice Hockey Association of India, Indian Amateur Luge Association, the Indian Golf Union and Modern pentathlon.- with voting rights.


The decision to grant affiliation to these federations was announced by IOA Acting President Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra after the IOA’s  Special General Body meeting here.


"We had appointed a five member committee to discuss the issue of affiliation of federations and it recommended that one year provisional affiliation  be granted  to  national federations and they be given voting rights as well for the November elections.


The five-member committee consisted of G S Mander, R K Anand, BP Baishya, V D Nanavati and Ashutosh Sharma.


Prof Malhotra made it clear that while these federations satisfy most of the criteria but they still will have to  comply with the relevant provisions of the of IOA constitution and fulfill the remaining requirements within a year or else their affiliation will be withdrawn.,"


The meeting also decided to set up three-member election commission to supervise the IOA polls which are slated to be held on November 25.


It unanimously authorized Prof Malhotra to nominate members for this election   commission.

Prof Malhotra added that there is no discord or conflict between the IOA and the IOC. We fully stand by the Olympic Charter.
