Miami: Sania Mirza lost to Sloane Stephens of America in straight sets and hence failed to make it to the singles main draw of the Miami WTA Premier event.
In the qualifying round Sloane looked class apart as she ran away with the first set. The American clinched the first set losing only two games in the process.
Sania came back strong in the second set to get four break points but could only convert one of them. The missed opportunities cost Sania the match as the tenth seeded took the second set 6-4.
Sania will now be focusing on her doubles campaign where she is seeded third along with her partner Elena Vesnina.
Mirza and Vesnina are coming from the back of a good performance in Indian Wells tournament where they lost in the finals.
