Houston: World No. 15 Feliciano Lopez won his debut at the Houston on Wednesday after he defeated Paolo Lorenzi 6-4, 7-6(4) in the second round of the US Men’s Clay Court Championship played here.

Lopez won 74 per cent of his first serve points, delivered 13 aces in the match that lasted for one hour and 56 minutes.

He would now face Carlos Berlocq, who became the first player to reach the final eight after prevailing over Bjorn Phau 6-1, 6-0.

Meanwhile, Kevin Anderson got off to a winning start, beating Brazilian Joao Souza 6-3, 6-4 to set up a second-round encounter with American Sam Querrey.
