Chennai: Indo-Pak Express of Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, who got back as a team after a gap of nearly three years, won their first match to enter the second round of Chennai Open here on Tuesday.
Bopanna and Aisam decided to reunite after a two-year gap having played with different partners last year. While Bopanna played most of the year with Frenchman Edouard Roger-Vasselin, Aisam partnered Jean-Julien Roger for the major part of the season.
Bopanna parted ways with Aisam in 2011 to partner compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi, keeping an eye on 2012 London Olympics. They last played together in the ATP World Tour Finals in London in 2011.
Top seeds at the event, they prevailed 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 against defending champions Benoit Paire of France and Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka in their first match since reuniting.
The duo next meet the wild card Indo-Russian pair of Saketh Myneni and Karen Khachanov in the pre-quarters.
