Indian shooters grab 1 silver, 2 bronze at doha

Ronjan SodhiDoha: Indian women shooting team consisting of Anjali Mandar Bhagwat, Ayonika Paul and Mampi Das won the silver medal with a total score of 1185/1200 in the Air Rifle Women category at the Asian Shooting Championships being held at Doha on Saturday. China won the Gold medal with 1187 and bronze went to Iran on 1183.

 

Meanwhile, Indian men shooters won a bronze in double trap while Sports Junior Women team too finished at the third place for bronze. However, the shooters missed the opportunity of getting the “Quota Place” for Olympic Games 2012 on Saturday at Doha.


In Air Rifle women, it was bad luck for both Anjali and Ayonika, who lost in “Tie Shoot” and had to contend with 9th and 10th position respectively. Both shot 396/400. There were 7 shooters at 396 after the Qualification Round and 4 shooters were to be selected after “Tie Shoot”. Mampi Das shot 395 and was ranked at 12th in the final ranking list.

The team consisting of Anjali Mandar Bhagwat, Ayonika Paul and Mampi Das won the silver medal with a total score of 1185/1200. China won the Gold medal with 1187 and bronze went to Iran on 1183.

In Double Trap event, team of RVS Rathore (135), Mohd Asab (135) and Ronjan Sodhi (134) won the Bronze medal. Due to heavy wind conditions, the scores of all shooters were affected. The highest score of first place shooter in Qualificaition Round was 139/150 and sixth place was at 136. The final ranking of our shooters was Mohd Asab 8th, RVS Rathore 9th and Ronjan Sodhi was at 14th position.

In Sports Pistol Junior women event, team of Surabhi Pathak (565), Aanchal Rana (548) and Oshin Tawani (533) won the Bronze Medal. The gold and silver medals were won by China and Thailand respectively. Surabhi Pathak reached the Finals of Sports Pistol Junior event and was ranked 7th with a final score of 565+147.7.

Double Trap Junior Men event, which was conducted under the banner of Qatar Shooting Association as sufficient entries were not received from Asian Countries. Shyan Masood won the gold medal with a score of 123/150. Asher Noria and Ankur Mittal shot 120 and 119 respectively. Silver and Bronze medals went to Kuwait. The winners were awared medals by Qatar Shooting Association.
