London Olympic all set to groove to Indian music composed by Rahman and IIayaraja

Chennai: Athletes at the London Olympics next month might get treated to some Indian music composed by AR Rahman and Ilayaraja, courtesy a Chennai based band Staccato who has been shortlisted to perform at the mega event starting next month.

Chennai based band which was incepted around eight years got the privilege to perform at the Olympic Park after their name was shortlisted among 10,000 entries.

It has been learnt that Kaashif Rafiq, the youngest member applied through a family friend for the contest in February without letting the band know and when the confirmation came they thought it to be a spam.

The group was selected after a four month screening process where the jury saw tapes of their performance.

The bands have lot of remixed numbers of Ilayaraja and AR Rahman and they blend  genres like jazz, Hindustani classical, and Carnatic.

The band has been allotted two slots of 80 minutes each and even though they are not part of the opening or closing ceremonies they still are delighted to be performing at the gala event.
