Bronze upgraded to silver is destiny, I dedicate this medal to my countrymen, says wrestler Yogewshar Dutt

Yogeshwar Dutts victory over Bajarang PuniaNew Delhi: London Olympics bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt losing in the first round at Rio Olympics was just not a shock for the Indians who were craving for yet another medal in Rio, it also put the wrestler into introspection as he secluded himself from the world, mulling over what went wrong at the mega event.

However, the news of his bronze medal at London being upgraded to silver as result of men’s 60 kg freestyle category runner-up in 2012 Games, late Russian Besik Kudukhov’s sample being tested positive for a banned substance brought him back on the social media, where he dedicated the silver medal to the countrymen. “This morning I got to know that my Olympic medal has been upgraded to Silver. I dedicate this medal to my countrymen,” wrote Yogeshwar on Twitter.

Meanwhile, in an interview to Times Of India, Yogeshwar said he was upset and angry with himself for his worst bout ever, which led to Rio disaster that he wanted to be alone and introspect as to why it happened with him.

“After 2012 London Olympics, I have just done one thing - practice, practice and practice. And then at the most important event, I failed at the very first step; it was a huge jolt,” he said.

Talking about the upgradaton, Yogeshwar said that the medal belonged to the nation. “When you are at the podium, nobody knows your name; it is your nation that wins. Similarly in my defeat, it was my country that lost. Bronze upgraded to silver is destiny, but I won't allow myself to forget Rio debacle. That moment of defeat will serve to propel me forward. I realise that you have to fall to rise again and run, so the falls are as important as all those wonderful winning moments,” he said to TOI.
