Ryan Hunter-Reay captures Indianapolis 500

Indianapolis: The Fort Lauderdale, Fla based Ryan Hunter-Reay, emerged champion in the 200-lap (186.563 mph average) 2014 Indianapolis 500 Mile Race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway here today. He received a standing ovation as finished first in the 2014 Indianapolis 500 Mile Race at the 2.5 miles race track of IMS, Indiana, the World Capital of Race. He earned the distinction of becoming the first American to win the race, which kept the jamed packed spell-bound,since Sam Hornish Junior in 2006.

At the wheels of the No. 28 DHL car for Andretti Autosport, Hunter-Reay, was lap leader nine times from lap 100 to 107 in the razor-sharp race at the IMS oval track.

In hunt for the title after deprived of the final-lap victory in 2013 because of a yellow flag for a single-car incident in Turn 1 , Hunter-Reay snatched a thrilling victory from three-time Indy 500 champion Helio Castroneves by a wafer thing margin of .0600 of a second. Ryan Hunter-Reay registered a 220.927 mph final lap to Castroneves’ 220.729 mph.

Hunter-Reay’s teammate Marco Andretti finished third . Hunter has realised his dream for victory.
