NCR hosts India's first ever cycle and horse Polo carnival

Bharat Polo Cup Horse PoloNew Delhi: The sunny afternoon of Saturday hosted the star studded, action packed, first ever two day gala ‘Sport of Kings’ Polo carnival in the city on 6 & 7 February. The event aimed at promoting Polo as a progressive sport in the country, witnessed representation from some of the finest players of the game.

The audiences present at the event witnessed the first ever Cycle Polo being played on NCR’s soil. The event was graced by Sh. Anurag Thakur, Member of Parliament and President Bharat Polo. The game of guts, glory, style and speed witnessed participation from three teams, namely Bharat Polo, Greater Noida and Indian Navy, battling to take home the cup.

Commenting on the occasion, Sh. Anurag Thakur, Member of Parliament and President Bharat Polo, said “I take pride in heading and being associated with Bharat Polo, being able to nurture Polo as a sport and promoting the culture of sports in India. Our country possesses abundance of talented sportsmen wanting to make a mark for themselves, however, guidance and facilities are required. With Bharat Polo we aim to build Polo facilities across the country like any start up enterprise and ensure that the budding sportsmen get the required skills polished to pursue the sport.

This event hosted in Greater Noida is our first step in this direction and we wish to host many of such events in future as well to nurture talent and provide them a platform to outshine.”

Bharat Polo is a foundation which has been conceptualized and incepted by Sh. Anurag Thakur, Member of Parliament, President Bharat Polo and a well known sports administrator in India along with Mr. Rajat Rai Khatri, a prominent entrepreneur. The initiative has been undertaken to create awareness, educate and promote the game of Polo in India of being ethical sports.

Bharat Polo Cup Cycle PoloThe audiences present witnessed the thrilling game of Horse Polo and Cycle Polo, devoured the delectable food cuisines and enjoyed Para-military Bands, Dog Shows, etc. Additionally a cultural performance Tharu, an ethnic community from Lakhimpur Kheri giving a sneak peek of their aspirations to become equal partners in modern society, enthralled the crowd.

The event was concluded by Trophy presentation by Ambassadors of various countries.

Bharat Polo as the name suggests is a foundation incepted for creating mass awareness, education and promotion of Polo as a sport in India. The foundation is conceived by Sh. Anurag Thakur (Member of Parliament) & Mr. Rajat Rai Khatri (An entrepreneur with business interests).

Sh. Anurag Thakur is one of the most experienced sports administrator known for promoting the culture of sports in India and through Bharat Polo he envisions doing the same. Polo has many forms attached to it which are less known to the audiences at large and through Bharat Polo he wishes to bridge that gap and make it a widely known and followed sport in India.

Mr. Samir Suhag an Arjuna Awardee and one of the most capped Indian Polo player’s has been an integral part from day one as the CEO of the foundation. He has associated and decided to spearhead himself with the initiative with a hope to develop and promote Polo as a sport played with true sportsman spirit. To give back to the Sport what the whole family has got from it.

The foundation will work towards setting up Polo facilities throughout the country to ensure mass access and thereby impart & develop the required skills for pursuing the sport.
