Rio for India

The Rio Olympics of 2016 is one of the most anticipated sports meet for India. There have been countless number of records broken as the sports meet approaches. One such record was set by the Indian men's 4X400 metre relay team on the 11th of July. They clocked at an impressive 3:00.91 at the Shree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore. They now hold the national record. The women's team for the same event were not left behind. Clocking 3:27.88, the women now hold the fourth fastest timing ever. Both have virtually qualified for Rio Olympics. This is an amazing leap for India athletics.

Nirmala Sheoran, Tintu Luka, M R Poovamma and Anilda Thomas are the women athletes. Having slipped to 14th in the world rankings, the women knew that they had to produce something special. Now they are climbing up the rankings. Currently 12th, they have a long way to go. Nonetheless, this is a team to be reckoned with.

The men’s team comprises of Kunhu Muhammed, Muhammed Anas, Ayyasamy Dharun and Arokia Rajiv. They are currently ranked 13th in the world. Having clocked the second best timing in their category, they know that they have something to lose. This will not be just another event. This time, India can dream big.
