National Initiative for Golf in Schools launches in Srinagar

Srinagar: The Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI) is launching two camps for school goings children in Srinagaras part of the National Initiative for Golf in Schools (NIGS) by the Indian Golf Union.

These camps are a part of IGU’s grass root level initiative to generate awareness and nurture country-wide talent for the sport. The trainings being held here aim to introduceas many as 150 children to the sport.Extending their commitment towards the development of golf in the country, WGAI has also fully subsidized these camps to ensure maximum participation.

After the success of the 2 camps in Srinagar last year, the WGAI in association with the JK Golf Association (JKGA) and Kashmir Golf Club (KGC) has announced two more camps.

Talking about the initiative, Ms. ChampikaSayal, Secretary General WGAI said “Our primary objective is to increase awareness and participation for golf in India. We have come a long way in where women golfers from India are positioned in the world of golf. However, we also realise it all starts at the grassroots level. This initiative aims at giving aptly timed exposure to school children which will also work towards awareness and nurturing talent.”

The first camp starts on 25th August and ends on 3rd September, followed by the second one on 4th Septemberwhich culminates on 13th September. WGAI has made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth running of the camps. The combined prize presentation ceremony will be held on 13thSeptember.
