Hope for Yuvi, Viru, Zak and Gauti as selectors show faith

yuvraj-zaheer-sehwagWhile most of the people in the country may have given up hopes on players like Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan making a comeback in the Indian team, selectors have shown a lot of faith on these senior cricketers by picking them in the squad for the West Indies 'A' tour to India.

The selection comes at a time when most of the senior players have not played enough cricket since they were dropped as it is off-season in India right now and there is hardly any cricket going on. This goes to show that the selectors still think that the likes of Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan still have the fire power to come back into the national side and a couple of big scores or wickets can get them in contention for selection in the all important South Africa series.

Sehwag and Zaheer are not the only cricketers to make a come back. Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj SIngh have also made it to the squad and it would be interesting see what the selectors have in store for them if all the players get back to form.

Players like Yuvraj and Sehwag are just one knock or rather one shot away from getting back to form and they still have enough arsenal to be dangerous at the highest level. With Zaheer it is more of fitness than anything else and hopefully he would get back his rhythm before India starts their overseas campaign.

There is another good thing that comes out of such a selection. It would keep the youngsters on their toes as they would now know that a couple of bad performances from their side and a few good knocks from the seniors would mean that their place might just be on the firing line. It will help them not to take their place for granted and in sports it is always about performance.

While Harbhajan Singh still struggling with form was the only senior who failed to make the final cut in the squads announced but all is not lost for the Turbunator. He still has a fair chance to perform at the domestic level and come back to the national side, given his age.

This can only be good for Indian cricket as a good team will have an equally good bench strength which the Aussies had at one point of time. There are a pool of players coming through our system and that just goes to show that cricket , being the most popular sport in the country is going in the right direction.
