Australians played very good cricket, says MS Dhoni

Sydney: Giving credit to the Australians for their stupendous win over India in the World Cup semi-final, Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Thursday said that the hosts played very good cricket to beat them by a comprehensive 95 runs.

"They played very good cricket. Over 300 is always a difficult score to chase. They could have got 350,” said Dhoni, stating that India started in a positive note but the Australians bowled well.

“They got the reverse swing going. We got off to a very good start. Shikhar's dismissal was slightly on the softer side. But you get under pressure chasing 300 plus score which makes you do things you don't want to do,” said Dhoni, adding that there was too much left for him and the lower order to do which was tough in those conditions.

Talking about his future, Dhoni said he wasn’t sure of it yet. “I'm 33, I'm still running, still fit. Next year (T20 World Cup) will be the time to decide about 2019 World Cup or not,” he said.

Australian skipper Michael Clarkesaid he was really excited to be in the final. "The boys played some outstanding cricket. Smith was hitting the ball so sweetly. I was really proud of the execution of our bowlers,” he said. A lot of the guys sacrificed themselves for the team.

“Thanks to MS Dhoni and the India team, they've given a lot over the summer... You asked if MS was going to be at the next World Cup, I'm sure he will be, he has a lot of cricket in him,” said Clarke, adding that losing to New Zealand in the group stage gave them a kick up

Steven Smith, who was named Man of the Match for his superb hundred, said: "It feels good. We thought 330 was around par, we had to bowl and field well, the boys did a terrific job, so hang on Melbourne.”
