IOA sets up two- member committee for Queen’s Baton Relay

New Delhi: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has set up two member committee comprising of Mr G.S.Mander and Mr S. Raghunathan for the smooth conduct of the Queen’s Baton Relay scheduled for Agra and here on October 12 and 13.

The Queen’s Baton is slated to arrive on October 11 at 2020 Hrs at IGI Airport here and will be received by the Olympians and the officials of the IOA.

In a statement, acting president of IOA Vijay Kumar Malhotra said that being the host of previous edition of the Commonwealth Games in 2010, New Delhi will be the first city to receive the Baton.

Prof Malhotra said the IOA has made arrangements to accord a warm welcome to the Baton and for those purpose two very experienced administrators Mr Mander and Mr Raghunathan have been entrusted for this job.

He said because of the security reasons and Dussehra festival some of the programmes relating to the relay has been curtailed and this has been agreed upon by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and also by the organizers of the 2014 Glasgow Games.

The IOA chief further said that Baton will leave for Agra on the morning of October 12to be taken to Taj Mahal and will return to the Capital in afternoon. The British High Commissioner will host a reception for the Baton in the evening.

On October 13th UNICEF will hold a programme in the morning and after that Baton will be taken to Qutub Minar by the athletes and IOA officials in the afternoon.

The Baton will leave for Dhaka on the morning of October 14.
