Chawla shines for Somerset once again, and this time with the ball

First it was with the bat and now with the ball, Piyush Chawla once again was the star for Somerset as he picked up seven wickets in the match against Derbyshire here on Wednesday. It looks like that he can do nothing wrong at this moment and with the impressive figures 7/157 in the match his dream-run continues in English County.

His five-wicket haul in the first innings was followed by the couple of wickets that he scalped in the second innings of the Derbyshire, who is chasing a stiff total of 244 and needs another 117 when the play would resume on the fourth and final day of the match.

Chawla was stunning with the bat in the last match when he slammed a century at Lord’s against Middlesex to take his team to a scintillating victory by an innings and 179 runs. He also picked up three wickets in the match and played his part really well.

His stint with the bat continued  as after Somerset slumped to a low total of 103 in the first innings of the match, Chawla top-scored as he contributed 27 runs in the first innings for Somerset.

The right-arm leg spinner came back to roll his arm over and claimed the wickets of three top order batsmen and couple of middle order batsmen and ended up with a figures of 5/111 after bowling 26 overs.

Somerset made the most of the batting friendly conditions in the second innings to pile up 438 runs as skipper Marcus Trescothick, Nick Compton and James Hildreth smacked half-centuries.

While chasing the stiff total of 244, Derbyshire lost their four wickets for 127. Derbyshire was off to a decent start as their opening pair added 49 runs but it was the spin-twins of Piyush Chawla and Jack Leach who ended up bagging couple of wickets each and reduced them to 4/127.

Derbyshire needs another 117 to win on the final day with six wickets in hand.
