World Athletics Championships: Gowda qualifies for discus throw final

Moscow: India's Vikas Gowda qualified for the final of discus throw at the World Athletics Championship at Luzhniki Stadium, here on Monday.

Vikas had a brilliant start as he registered a throw of 63.64 meters in his very first attempt. However, the 30-year-old could not get better off his mark in his next couple of attempts and stuck to 62.59 m and 62.67 m respectively.

Though, Vikas opening throw was more than enough to get him through this round and he finished off at fourth in Group A and finished an overall seventh.

Meanwhile, Robert Harting of Germany recorded the longest throw (66.62m). All the 12 finalists will be competing for the medals on Tuesday.
