1st Sports Performance Analysis Workshop ends on high note

Pune: The 1st Sports Performance Analysis Workshop being conducted by ISRA Sports Science Research Association (ISSRA) ended here on Sunday.

Talks on the newer concepts of having biological passports for all athletes finding the preventive aspects of detection against new designer steroids and standardising the problem of detection of growth hormone evoked never ending interaction between the audience and Don Catlin, world anti-doping consultant, on the last day of the Workshop.


Dr Don, a house hold name across the globe in sporting circle, is a pioneer and legend in the fight against the 4th generation designer steroids being prepared by the parallel labs and finding solutions to the injudicious use of Growth Hormone and standardising of test for EPO detection.


Don Catlin, who is now heading Anti Doping research laboratory, is very active as the CEO and is ably assisted by his son Oliver Catlin who also participated in the deliberations.


Meanwhile, Dr Ashok Ahuja, Ex Head Department of Sports medicine, talked on the age verification method (TW3) along with height prediction, which apart from detecting forgery of fielding overage players against young upcoming talented players, has increased the scope to determine the biological development and skeletal maturity.


It helps the coaches in preparing individualised training programme along with reduction in the injury epidemiology and height prediction is important for talent scouting in games and for various army and Para-military carriers.

Col Anup Krishnan spoke on the scientific norms created under their Mission Olympics programme at Army Institute of Sports and emphasized on the role of scientific evaluation in sports and its collaboration with technical aspects of the game.

Other Faculty member spoke on Psychology, Traumatolgy, Nutritional requirements and supplements.

Dr Piyush Angrish, who was the sports medicine expert with Olympic Silver medallist Vijay Kumar, talked about the relaxation techniques, concentration, attention, evaluation and goal setting done for him prior to his participation during training at Army Marksmanship Unit Mhow, where Kumar trained and brought laurels.

All the delegates were presented with participation certificates by Vice Chancellor, D.V.Patil University, Mumbai who was the chief guest at the concluding function.
