Dubai: Centurions of the Wellington and Mohali Tests have made impressive gains in the latest Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test batsmen released on Tuesday.
In Wellington, England’s Nick Compton’s 100 was his second successive century, and his teammate Jonathan Trott scored 121 in a drawn encounter against New Zealand. In Mohali, openers Murali Vijay scored 153 and debutant Shikhar Dhawan hit 187 to set up their side’s six-wicket victory over Australia, which gave India a 3-0 lead in the four-Test series.
Compton has risen 13 places to 56th position, Trott has jumped three places to 10th place, Vijay is now at a career-best 43rd spot after moving up 16 places and Dhawan has entered the rankings in 61st position.
Other batsmen inside the top 20 to progress are England’s Matt Prior in 14th (up by one) and India batsman Virat Kohli in 20th (up by four). These are their career-best batting rankings to date.
Outside the top 20 the batsmen to move upwards include Australia’s David Warner in 29th (up by one), New Zealand’s Kane Williamson in 35th (up by two), Australia opener Ed Cowan in 38th (up by seven), team mate Phil Hughes in 50th (up by four) and New Zealander Hamish Rutherford in 53rd (up by four).
The batting table is still headed by South Africa’s Hashim Amla with his teammate AB de Villiers sitting in second place and West Indies’ Shivnarine Chanderpaul in third position.
Australia captain Michael Clarke is now ranked fourth after dropping 21 ratings points and two places following the Mohali Test.
Meanwhile, in the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test bowlers, West Indies’ Kemar Roach in 11th (up by one) and England pace bowler Stuart Broad in 13th (up by one) are the only bowlers inside the top 20 to improve their rankings.
Outside the top 20, India’s Ravindra Jadeja has moved into 35th place (up by six), West Indies’ Shane Shillingford is in 41st (up by 19) and Zimbabwe’s Kyle Jarvis is now 56th (up by 12).
The bowlers’ table is still headed by South Africa’s Dale Steyn with his teammate Vernon Philander in second place and Pakistan’s Saeed Ajmal in third.
There is no change to the top three in the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test all-rounders with Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan sitting in top spot, followed by South Africa's Jacques Kallis in second place and India’s Ravichandran Ashwin sharing third place with Vernon Philander.
