IOC suspends Indian Olympic Association

Lausanne: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended India's national Olympic committee because of government interference in its election process.  Two officials with knowledge of the decision told to The Associated Press.

The decision came a day before Indian Olympic Association elections to be held on Wednesday.

According to Associated Press, the IOC executive board imposed the sanctions today after the Indian Olympic Association failed to comply with the world body's directive to hold its elections scheduled tomorrow under the Olympic Charter.

The AP news agency said that the officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the official announcement hadn't been made yet.
Suspension would mean that the IOA will stop receiving IOC funding and the Indian athletes will not be able to represent their country in Olympics events.
