Kapil echoes Gavaskar’s opinion, says Sachin should speak to selectors about his future

New Delhi: After Sunil Gavaskar having said that the selectors should have a word with Sachin Tendulkar about his future plans, former India captain Kapil Dev on Monday too echoed a similar voice, asking the Master Blaster to speak to the selectors about his future.

The criticism about his batting has arisen due to Tendulkar’s consistent failure with the bat and the manner in which he has been out in the last five innings have only given his critics to airs their opinions against the Little Master.

Speaking to Aaj Talkm Kapil Dev said that either the selectors should speak to him or Sachin should himself have a word with them. “The problem is that Sachin does not speak about it openly and the selectors have also been mum about it till now. This results in confusion amongst the fans and also invites criticism from everyone, especially when Sachin performs badly. Selectors should talk to him openly. He is a hero and one feels really bad to see fingers being pointed at him," said Kapil.

Kapil was also critical of captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and said Dhoni's place in the playing XI is in itself questionable. "Losing by 10 wickets is a big loss on home soil. We never let other teams dominate in our own conditions. But, this loss has raised some serious questions. We all know that Dhoni has performed badly in the last 8-10 Tests and going purely by performance, his place in the playing XI seems a bit doubtful,” said Kapil, adding that a captain takes credit for a win and therefore he should be blamed for a defeat as well.

Earlier Gavaskar had said that Tendulkar had been playing for so long and he has been so consistent and therefore his lack of runs would give the critics chance to ask questions. "At the end of the day, it is the selectors who will take the call. I think the selectors will probably have a word with Tendulkar about what his future plans are and then take a call. Ideally, whatever decision is taken about Tendulkar's retirement, I believe he will make his own decision," Gavaskar told NDTV.
