CL T20: Sydney Sixers beat Highveld Lions to emerge champions

Johannesburg: A clinical all round performance by the Sydney Sixers propelled them to a 10 wickets victory over local champions Highveld Lions in the finals of the Champions League T20 here on Sunday.

Batting first, Lions never looked comfortable against the disciplined bowling attack of the Sixers and were shot out for a paltry 122, thanks to the bowlng performance of Nathan McCullum (3-24) and Josh Hazlewood (3-22).

And in reply the Australian outfit rode on a brilliant opening partnership between Michael Lumb and skipper Brad Haddin to reach the target with 7.3 overs to spare.

Lumb was more dominant of the two batsmen and unleashed his fury right from the word go. He scored 82 off 42 deliveries including eight fours and five sixes, while Baddin belted four boundaries and a six in his 33-ball 37.

Earlier, batting first Lions were off to a horrible start and lost four wickets with the scoreboard reading only nine.

It was then Jean Symes who started the damage control and few crucial partnerships down the innings helped them cross the 100 mark.

Symes top scored with 51 off 46 balls including eight fours.

Sydney Sixers 124 for 0 (Lumb 82*, Haddin 37*) beat Lions 121 (Symes 51, Hazlewood 3-22, McCullum 3-24) by 10 wickets
