Colombo: Chris Gayle who made an unbeaten 75 which helped West Indies thrash Australia by 74 runs in the second semifinals said that he would like to say sorry to the Sri Lankans fans in advance because West Indies is going to win the ICC T20 World Cup.
Sri Lanka reached the finals after defeating Pakistan comfortably in the first semifinals.
Gayle who was awarded the man of the match trophy for his fabulous batting said, “I like Sri Lanka as a team but it is going to be West Indies all the way. There is no stopping West Indies this time.”
Gayle who played a very calculated innings said, “Before the match we knew the bowlers that we will target. Watson has been picking wickets for Australia and Starc has been good with the new ball. Spinners do play a role in T20s but we knew that we had to target them. We have got some power in our batting and the plan worked out perfectly.”
Gayle who was not getting much of a strike throughout his innings said, “I was not really worried about the lack of strike, Samuels and I had good communication between.”
He also congratulated Pollard for his innings, “We all know how dangerous he is, today he showed what he is capable of. He provided the late assault that was very important. We wanted a score around 160 and the extra 40 odd runs came in very handy.”
Meanwhile, captain Darren Sammy on his team playing flawless cricket said, “We knew that we had to play our A game if we want to beat a team like Australia, we played a perfect match and executed our plans brilliantly.”
On the big finals against Sri Lanka he said, “They are a very strong team especially in these conditions. Hopefully we can cross the final hurdle.”
