Hashim Amla an epitome of consistency

From a youngster to a revered icon Hashim Amla of South Africa has made a steady growth to the top of the cricketing world and his triple century against England just stands a testimony to that. His epic innings which went on for more than 13 hours saw him yield 311 unbeaten runs, the first triple for the country in test cricket.

Amla who came on to bat on the second day at 3.07pm and batted till 3.40 two days later saw him surpass the previous record of 278 by teammate AB de Villiers before he moved on to his triple ton. Nicknamed as ‘Hash’, he is the first cricketer of Indian origin to have played for South Africa.

Amla who made his debut in India in 2004 as a 21 year old youngster has far across and now is one of the great names of modern day cricket. He was criticized for his technique early on, but then he did let it ruffle him and made a continuous progress. He is one of the most serene cricketers around and hardly does anyone ever see that smile go off his face.

For the records he has scored 15 centuries in 59 tests he played in his career that has been spanned over eight years. He has scored 4,600 runs at an average of 46.98.

And talking about his ODI record, he made his debut in 2008 and since then he has proved exceptionally in this format. His technique kept him away from the shorter format of the game but then when he got a chance he made full use of it. He has played 57 ODI’s and in four years he has already scored nine centuries scoring 2,881 at an average of 56.49. He is one of the few batsmen who simultaneously featured in the top ten rankings of both test and ODI ratings.
