Though lower in rankings, the Koreans repeatedly penetrated rival’s defence, thanks to India’s laidback attitude in the midfield. India enjoyed a major share of the possession but failed to convert their chances. Meanwhile, the Korean goalkeeper was extraordinary beneath the bar as he made some brilliant reflexive saves to earn his team its first point in the tournament.

It was South Korea took the lead in the 11th minute after Jeong Jun-woo deflected in a rising shot from his teammate. Rupinder Pal Singh’s misdirected pass from the back was intercepted at the centre and the Koreans made it to the Indian circle to score the goal.

India fought back to equalise in the 33rd minute through Lalit Upadhyay, who sent a firm reverse drive from the penalty spot low into the left corner. India, the highest ranked Asian team, now have four points from two games.
