Tabuena wins Hilton Asian Tour golfer of the month for June

golf icon isn 2Sentosa, Singapore: Philippines’ Miguel Tabuena has been unanimously voted as the Hilton Asian Tour Golfer of the Month for June.

Currently fourth on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, Tabuena made his dream debut at the U.S. Open after topping the sectional qualifying in California.

The 21-year-old won by two shots after carding a fine 64 at Lake Merced Golf Club and a 68 at The Olympic Club, Ocean course, for an 11-under-par 132 aggregate.

Tabuena has been riding on a rich vein of form over the last seven months. Having won his first Asian Tour title on home soil last December, the young Filipino went on to finish tied fourth and second at the SMBC Singapore Open and Maybank Championship Malaysia.

“I’m really happy with my game. I’ve learnt a lot the last couple of weeks especially at the U.S. Open and I believe my game is ready.

I did not expect to win to U.S Open qualifiers. I knew I had a good chance as I was playing well. Hopefully I can have another victory on the Asian Tour again.

But for now, I’m just delighted to win the Hilton Asian Tour Golfer of the Month as it’s a special award that recognises my achievements,” said Tabuena.

The Hilton Asian Tour Golfer of the Month award is one of the partnership initiatives aimed at recognising outstanding efforts of Asian Tour members both at home and abroad.

The online voting contest on asiantour.hiltongolf.com to determine the monthly winner, engages golf fans as they vote for their favourite golfer through the Asian Tour’s media channels, culminating with fans voting for the Asian Tour Hilton Golfer of the Year at the end of 2016.

Besides casting their vote for their favourite player on the Asian Tour, fans, who log onto asiantour.hiltongolf.com also stand a chance to win a one night stay at any Hilton property of their choice.

Tabuena won the award ahead of China’s Wu Ashun and Australia’s Scott Hend where the trio were nominated by a selection panel before going into a voting process.
