Singapore: Malaysia’s Nicholas Fung received a timely confidence boost after making a big stride on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) following his first win at the PGM UMW Templer Park Masters last week.

Fung received six OWGR points from his maiden win on the Asian Development Tour (ADT) and jumped 200 spots from 690th to 490th to become the highest ranked Malaysian golfer in the world.

“I’m getting better because I can win on the ADT. Now, I’m looking forward to win on the Asian Tour. There are many international players here so it isn’t easy to win. I tried really hard,” said Fung.

Based on the latest rankings, there are a total of 17 Asian Tour stars in the world’s top 200.

Three-time Asian Tour Order of Merit winner, Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand (55th) and countryman Kiradech Aphibarnrat (85th) are ranked among the world’s top 100 while former Asian Tour member, Bae Sang-moon of Korea, is also in the top 100 in 90th position.

Others players in the top 200 include honorary Members, K.J. Choi of Korea (101st), Fiji’s Vijay Singh (145th) and India’s Jeev Milkha Singh (147th).

Reigning Order of Merit winner, Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand is in 118th place followed by China’s Liang Wen-chong (168th), Korea’s Noh Seung-yul (173rd) and Philippines’ Juvic Pagunsan (187th).

India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar is the highest ranked Indian (135th) with compatriots Anirban Lahiri (153rd) and Shiv Kapur (195th) trailing closely behind.

Seven-time Asian Tour winner Prayad Marksaeng of Thailand is lying in 162nd place while Australia’s Scott Hend is in 198th place. Chile’s Felipe Aguilar occupies 134th place while Korea’s Kim Hyung-sung is in 109th place.

Starting this year, all ADT events will receive Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points, which is a huge boost for players as they get more opportunities to play and improve on their world rankings.

The OWGR will be used to determine the top 60-man field at the World Cup of Golf in Australia this November and the Olympics in Rio De Janeiro in 2016.
