Vani, Aditi and Gauri to battle out for Usha DGC Ladies Open golf

New Delhi: The new leader on the Ladies IGU Order of Merit Vani Kapoor, who with her second win this season moved to the top will be chased hard by Mehar Atwal and Gurbani Singh as the top women amateurs tee up for the annual USHA Delhi Golf Ladies Golf championships at the Delhi Golf Club from November 22 to 24.


The Usha DGC Ladies Open, one of the Categorised event for Ladies circuit, will see the top three girls in a tight race, as they are separated by just four points each. Vani has 208 for her best six events, while Mehar has 204 and Gurbani 200. Aditi Ashok (176) and Gauri Monga (137) are behind them, but Gauri has skipped a lot of events this season to prepare for her school leaving examinations.

“It has been a good year. I have played good golf and the competition among amateurs is really tough. All of us have had our moments and it will be quite exciting at the Usha DGC Ladies Open,” said Vani Kapoor.

“USHA International has been supporting women’s golf in various ways, whether it be tournaments or sponsorship for many years. It is part of our mission to empower women and help them attain international standards in all field,” said Mr. Siddharth Shriram, Co-Chairman of the Siddharth Group. “We are proud to be part of the growth of women’s golf in India.”

“It is also nice to see our girls like Gauri Monga, Vani Kapoor and Aditi Ashok and Mehar Atwal excel in international events and they have also been giving the professionals a run for their money, literally. In fact Vani and Aditi have even beaten the pros in some of the events,” he added.

The field for the 54-hole event will be one of the strongest assembled this year.
Mehar Atwal is the winner of two of the tournaments, sponsored by Usha, the Southern India Ladies and Pune Ladies, while Vani  has won Western India and Northern India and Gurbani Singh has won the Army Ladies event.

Aditi Ashok, who like Vani has been storming the pro bastion with a win, while still being an amateur, will also add to the field.

Usha will also sponsor the All India Amateur event in Chandigarh this year and later in 2012, they will add the Eastern India Ladies.
