Queen Sirikit Cup: Aditi tied 10th, India sixth

Queen Sirikit CupSingapore: The Indian team lead by Aditi Ashok was lying tied sixth at the end of the first day of the 34th Queen Sirikit Cup which got underway at the Tanah Merah Golf and Country Club on Wednesday.

In the individual standings, the 14-year-old Aditi was the best among the three Indians with a card of 75 that gave her a tied 10th position with the day's best rounds coming from New Zealand's 15-year-old Lydia Ko and Korean Hyo-Joo Kim, both of whom shot 69 each. Defending champion Dottie Ardina opened with a round of 76.


Raksha Phadke shot 77 and Gurbani Singh carded 79 from among the 34 starters.

The Indian team for the second year in a row is being sponsored by Usha, who also support all the Ladies events and select junior events on the Indian amateur circuit.

New Zealand's World No.1 Lydia Ko celebrated her 15th birthday by leading her team to a strong start. New Zealand will begin the second round third, four shots behind defending champions South Korea who began in style carding a two-under-par 142 total to lead Australia by three shots. Ko shared the low score round of the day with South Korea's Kim Hyo-Joo, with impressive rounds of three under-par 69.

The format is three rounds of stroke play with the team's top two scores from the three players counting towards the team total.

Korea are the most successful team in the event's history with 14 wins.
