After a successful comeback into international cricket in the shorter version of the game, Yuvraj Singh is ready to step into the next phase by testing waters in the longer version. The 30-year-old is set to figure in North Zone's Duleep Trophy semi-final against Central Zone in Hyderabad starting October 14, writes The Indian Express.
Virat Kohli will skip the fixture and has sought permission from the board to go on a short holiday but Yuvraj is among the three changes besides Rahul Sharma and Mandeep Singh — both returning from the India A tour to New Zealand — to the North squad that beat West zone.
The report further adds that, pleased by the way his body had borne the workload during the World T20, Yuvraj is keenly eyeing the No.6 slot in the Test team as an all-rounder, with special focus on his left-arm spin instead of just being a specialist batsman.
Yuvraj has three matches — four if North reaches the Duleep final, along with two rounds of Ranji Trophy games — to impress the selectors before they announce the squad for the England Test series.
Yuvraj was initially named in the North squad for the first game but was ‘rested’ for the game against West.
