Sandeep Patil appointed Chairman of selection commitee, Amarnath sacked

Former India all-rounder Sandeep Patil has been appointed chairman of the senior selection committee for a maximum term of four years to be renewed each year by the BCCI, says a report in The Hindu. Patel currently is the  Operations Director at the National Cricket Academy.

Apart from Patil the other four members are Roger Binny, Saba Karim, Vikram Rathour and Rajinder Singh Hans.

“We wanted a person of sufficient stature as chairman. No one can question Sandeep Patil’s credentials,” said BCCI president N. Srinivasan on Patil’s appointment.

Meanwhile, Mohinder Amarnath has been sacked from the national selection committee, says a report in The Times of India. Amarnath who only finished one-year as national selector, was speculated to be promoted as a chief selector but instead BCCI completely removed him.

"The selection committee is picked by the Board. There is a process of consultation based on which the decision is taken. And it's not that this process started only today morning. It was going on for quite some time because we were aware that a new set of selectors have to be chosen. There has been extensive discussion among Board members for some time," said Srinivasan.

"It was the opinion of the board that the previous selection committee did a very good job overall in their four-year period, which saw India winning the World Cup. We wanted a person of sufficient stature to be the new chairman. And I think Sandeep Patil fits the bill. No one can question his credentials," he added.
