Wimbledon continues to provide shocking results, after Nadal and Venus, its Sharapaova's turn to make an early exit

World No. 1 Maria Sharapova crashed out of Wimbledon as 15th seeded German Sabine Lisicki defeated the tall Russian in straight sets in the fourth round, says a report in The Times of India.

Lisicki defeated Sharapova in straight sets and hence avenged her 2011 semifinal defeat in Wimbledon.

After the loss Sharapova was quoted saying, “You can only use this loss as motivation. Of course you want to stay at the top as long as you can. Obviously everyone guns for that spot.”

“Once I relax a little bit, I'm sure to use this as great motivation and keep going after the many goals I have,” she said.

Maria Sharapova who was bidding to become the first player since Serena Williams to win the French Open-Wimbledon double in the same year received a shock when she was defeated by Sabine Lisicki in straight sets, and it was Maria’s unforced errors that cost her the match, says a report in the Indian Express.

Apart from Sharapova, Serena Williams also struggled in her match against 65th-ranked wild card Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan but won it in the end. The match went to three sets and it was Serena’s experience that saw her winning it.

Meanwhile, Kim Clijster has played her last Wimbledon match, as she lost her fourth round match against Angelique Kerber of Germany in straight sets, says a report in The Hindu.

Clijster is retiring from tennis after this year’s U.S. Open. Clijster in this match could only manage to win two games and was overpowered by her opponent.
