Set to play his 50th Test, can Virat Kohli break the records set by Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar?

Virat Kohli Test 26India's captain and star batsman Virat Kohli is set to play his 50th Test on Thursday, November 17. A hail of applause will reach the 28-year-old Delhi lad as he takes the field at Vizag. He made his Test debut against West Indies in June 2011 in Jamaica.

Kohli will be the 28th player from India to play in 50 or more Tests while the batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar tops the list for the country and in the world, with 200 Test appearances. With him now slowly inching towards Sachin, experts and common people have started comparing him with the maestro himself.

In his 49 Tests so far, Kohli has scored 3,643 runs with 13 hundreds and 12 fifties. His highest score is 211. With his 50th Test fast approaching, Kohli will surpass Kiran More and EAS Prasanna, who both played in 49 matches each.

On the other hand, the Little Master has played has played 200 Test matches and has piled on 15921 runs with an average of 53.78 and the highest being 248 against Bangladesh. Tendulkar has 51 hundreds and 68 fifties to his name while Kohli already has 13 hundreds and 12 fifties. Kohli averages 46.11 and ranks 11th in the list of highest career batting averages for India in Test matches.

Sachin Tendulkar played his 50th Test match against West Indies in 1997. He at that time had scored 3438 runs which in are fact less than what Kohli has achieved with his 49 matches. Sachin's average though was on a little higher side with 49.82 and he had 11 hundreds then when compared to Kohli's 13 now. Sachin's glorious cover drive couldn't be matched by anyone until the Delhi lad started pulling it off with such grace and elegance to it. Bowling to Virat Kohli is a nightmare to the teams and so was the case with the master blaster.

As a Test captain, Kohli has led the team to 10 victories from 18 matches. He is India's fourth most successful captain after Mahendra Singh Dhoni (27 wins), Sourav Ganguly (21) and Mohammad Azharuddin (14). Sachin's Captaincy stint was not a great one though with 4 Test match wins in 25 matches that he has captained.

With Virat going the same way, can demolish all the records set the ‘Master Blaster’ and can bring laurels to the nation.
