India vs West Indies 2nd Test Day 5: Fantastic ton by Chase helps West Indies foce a draw against India

West Indies 388/6: Roston Chase 137, Jason Holder 64) Roston Chase scores a fantastic century under pressure that help West Indies force a spirited draw against India. A great fight back by the hosts after being down in most part of the second Test.

After 54 overs: West Indies 215/5 (S Dowrich 33, R Chase 70). West Indies have done exceedingly well in the first session on Day 5. They just lost one wicket in this session and have scored 167 runs.

After 50 overs: West Indies 204/5 (S Dowrich 27, R Chase 65): West Indies are going steady as they have added 63 runs for 6th wicket so far.

Chase comes up with his fifty in 84 balls as West Indies move to 177/5 in 41 oevrs.

West Indies 142/5: Ashwin strikes for India as the ball takes the inside edge of the bat onto the pad and Pujara dives forward and takes a sensational catch to his left at short leg.

After 30 overs West Indies 127/4 (J Blackwood 50, R Chase 28). It’s looks a different West Indies batting line-up today. The wicket too does not seem to assist the bowlers as there is hardly any movement offered. Blackwood has scored a 43-ball 50 and Chase is also playing sensibly at 28.

West Indies 90/4 in 22 overs: Though India is in the driver’s seat, West Indies started Day 5 on a positive note as they score 42 in six overs.

After rain washed away the most part of the fourth day’s play, India will take on the field with a hope of claiming the six remaining of West Indies’ wickets before rain strikes again to play a spoilsport. Starting the second innings with 304 runs behind, the hosts lost four of their wickets for just. Only 15.5 overs were bowled before lunch. But heavy rain throughout the afternoon prevented further play.



Day 4

Rain has taken its toll as the play was called off for the day due to a wet outfield. However, India would be quite hopeful of a win as the hosts have already taken four of West Indies’ wicket and is just six wickets from winning this Test.

West Indies 48/4: Shami strikes again, sends Bravo back to pavilion. Shami bowls a short ball and Bravo is taken aback as he fails to get out of the way and gives a catch to KL Rahul at second slip.

West Indies 41/3: West Indies in trouble as Mohammed Shami bowls out Marlon Samuels for a duck. Shami bowls short on middle and off, but Samuels fails to defend.

Virat Kohli’s decision of bringing Amit Mishra as a bowling change pays off as Brathwaite gets out to a short ball pitched outside leg. Brathwaite gets top edge is caught KL Rahul at midwicket.

After 10 overs: West Indies 29/1 (D Bravo 8, K Brathwaite 19)

After 3 overs: West Indies 6/1 (D Bravo 1, K Brathwaite 4): Ishant Sharma strikes in his very second over as takes Chandrika’s wicket. He bowls a short of length delivery outside the off stump. Chandrika fails to withdraw his shot and elbows it to the wicket.


The start of the match has been delayed due to rain. Just as the umpires came to inspect the field at around 9:30 am (West Indies time), it started raining again. It had rained earlier during the night and early morning.

Day 3

India declare their innings at 500/9. Ajinkya Rahane scored a brilliant unbeaten century (108). Now India lead by 304 runs.

After 162 overs: (Ajinkya Rahane 83*, Amit Mishra 21*): Rain stops the play. India lead by 260.

After 160 overs: India 447/6 (Ajinkya Rahane 82*, Amit Mishra 13*).

After 154: India 428/6 (Ajinkya Rahane 75*, A Mishra 2*): India lost one wicket in the form of Wridhiman Saha. Holder trapped Saha with a short of a length ball that stayed low and moved back in.

After 144 overs: India 403/5 (AM Rahane 64, WP Saha 38*)
India start their Day 3 on 358/5 with a lead of 162 runs. Ajinkya Rahane (42) and Wridhiman Saha (17) take on to the crease and would look to consolidate India’s chances by adding as many runs as possible.

Day 2

KL Rahul grabbed the opportunity that came his way after Murali Vijay’s injury as he went to score a magnificent century (158), which put India in the driver’s seat on the day two of the second Test against the West Indies at Jamaica. The visitors ended the day two on 358/5, taking an 162-run lead over the West Indies.

Day 1

After R Ashwin spun a web against West Indies batsmen, scalping for 52 in 16 overs that restricted the hosts to a paltry 196 in their first innings of second Test being played at Sabina Park, Kingston, KL Rahul, who came in as a replacement for injured Murali Vijay, showed his temperament with the bat and went to score an unbeaten 75 before the close of Day one as India scored 126 for one and is behind by 70 runs with nine wickets in hand.
