India vs Windies 1st Test: India run rampage on West Indies to clinch Test by an innings and 92 runs

Ashwin RavichandranFollowing up on their impressive performances with the willow, having amassed a mammoth 566 in the first innings-- thanks largely to an outstanding batting display by skipper Virat Kohli who notched up his maiden double ton in test cricket and a well paced hundred from R Ashwin, who showed a lot of character and resistance all throughout his knock, the visitors managed to replicate their performances with the ball running rampage on the hosts in a humiliating fashion to take the first Test by an innings and 92 runs at Antigua on the penultimate day of the match.

Known to assist slow bowling in the latter half of a Test, the Antigua pitch played no different this time around as Ashwin's all-round heroics helped clinch the first Test in favour of the visitors who went on to register their biggest win outside Asia.

Having enforced the follow-on, owing to a cracking display of seam bowling from Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami in the first innings who picked up four scalps apiece to send the hosts back into the hunt for more runs.

This time, it was the Tamil Nadu all-rounder who did justice to his selection by exploiting the cracks in the pitch and weaving his magic to fold out the Windies for a paltry 231. This had come on the backdrop of a resilient 95 for the ninth wicket between Carlos Braithwaite and Devendra Bishoo. Ashwin's brilliant 7/83 meant the match did not have to go into the final day.

This gives extra day until the next Test for both teams to head back into the drawing room, unwind and prepare well. While the hosts will look to get back to winning ways, the Indians would hope they keep this form going. After all, it is a clash for supremacy in the longest format between the world champions of the shortest formats.
