New Delhi: An unbeaten 83 by Indian skipper Virat Kohli and a patient 52 (not out) by Ajinkya Rahane helped India consolidate their second innings lead to 403 runs against South Africa on the third day of the fourth Test at Ferozeshah Kotla ground, here on Saturday.
India were 190 for four in their second innings courtesy 133-run stand for the fifth wicket between Kohli and Rahane before play was called off a little early because of bad light.
The first innings centurion Rahane, started from where he had left and scored a half century after Murali Vijay (3), Rohit Sharma (0), Shikhar Dhawan (21) and Cheteshwar Pujara (28) were dismissed in quick succession. Meanwhile, Kohli returned to form with his first 50 plus score in the series. This was his 12th Test half-century. Meanwhile, Rahane’s 50 came off 146 balls compared to Kohli's milestone that was achieved in only 70 balls.
Morne Morkel was the best South African bowler (3/29 in 17 overs), who bowled a scorching yorker to get Dhawan out.
Earlier, India started the day on a bad note as Morkel send Vijay back to the pavilion with a short ball, while Rohi Sharma once again disappointed the crowd he lost his stumps to Morkel’s fuller delivery.
