Colombo: Despite some stupendous performance by their bowlers (Ishant Sharma’s 5-23 in the first innings, followed by R Ashwin’s 3-38 in the second), India’s practice match against Sri Lanka Board President’s XI ended in a draw after Kaushal Silva (83) and Upul Tharanga (52) scored half centuries for the hosts in their second innings here on Saturday.
However, it proved to be a good practice match for India as they had an upperhand over the hosts on all the three days.
Though the Indian batsmen failed again in the second innings, adding just 180 runs to their first innings lead, the bowlers struck once again and restricted the hosts to 200/6 in 54 overs as they chased an unachievable target of 411 runs.
Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (3/38 in 8 overs) warmed up nicely for the Test series while Harbhajan Singh (1/26 in 8 overs) and Amit Mishra (1/42 in 12 overs) also rolled over their arm.
Brief scores: India 351 and 180 (KL Rahul 47, Cheteshwar Pujara 31) drew with Sri Lanka President's XI 121 and 200/6 (Kaushal Silva 83, Upul Tharanga 52).
