Harare: In all praise for Ambati Rayudu for his stupendous century (124) in India’s four-wicket win against Zimbabwe in the first ODI played at Harare Sports Club on Friday, Indian skipper Ajinkya Rahane said Rayudu batted really well in tough conditions.
“Rayudu batted really well as the wicket was not easy early during the innings. The way he batted, it was brilliant to see him from the dressing room. We all knew 255 was a good score. We knew our fielding was good. Bhajji paji and Axar Patel bowled well. I was looking to stay calm, but inside I was nervous. It could have gone either way. All credit to both the batsmen and the bowlers,” said Rahane.
Rayudu, who was man-of-the-match, said it was very tough to bat in the morning. “I and Ajinkya were batting well until he got out. I am happy that I took the responsibility. I was just telling (Stuart) Binny to hold back a bit till the 42nd over as we couldn't afford to lose wickets then,” said Rayudu.
Meanwhile Zimbabwe captain Chigumbura said: “It was disappointing to lose the game after getting so close. I thought it was a good wicket to bat on, but we kept losing wickets. Losing wickets in groups made the difference. It is also good to score runs and hopefully I can carry on and win for the team.”
